What is hypnotherapy? A range of therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Neuro-linguistic Programming and Analytical therapy are combined with clinical hypnosis to effect positive, beneficial change.
What is hypnosis? When you are hypnotised, you enter an altered state of awareness, similar to the state which occurs somewhere between being fully awake and fully asleep. Most of us experience different states of awareness in any given day, for example, when you have driven from one place to another without fully remembering the journey, or become so engrossed in a book that you can visualize the events described and even hear the characters speak but be oblivious to what is going on around you. A hypnotherapist induces a state of hypnosis to facilitate access to the unconscious mind, which is more receptive to positive, beneficial suggestions. Most people enjoy the process, which is usually accompanied by a pleasant state of deep, physical and mental relaxation. It is important to stress that you remain fully in control of the situation at all times; no-one can be made to do anything against their will; the entire process is aimed at enabling you to regain control of your life.
How long does it take and how many sessions will I need? Each session generally lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour, although the initial consultation may take considerably longer. On your first visit, you will be asked lots of questions and be given the opportunity to raise any queries or concerns that you may have. The information you provide will be used to draw up a personal treatment plan. The number of sessions required varies from person to person, depending upon the nature of their problem but as a rough guide, is usually between 2 and 4 sessions. Some people find that just 1 session is sufficient, whilst others may require up to 6 sessions. For example, it is unlikely that clients who wish to lose weight or who suffer panic attacks can be resolved in 1 session, since these are usually long-standing issues that are unlikely to be resolved overnight. However, you can be assured that treatment will be concluded as speedily as possible, taking into account your continued well-being.
How much does it cost? Fees vary according the type of treatment required. Please contact me for further details.
Can home visits be arranged? Under special circumstances (eg. if you are suffering from agoraphobia or you have limited mobility) it may be possible to arrange for treatment to take place in your own home. |
